Would you RV ?

Have you seen the size of some of the RV's patroling the streets. My father in law has one, but stepping into it this last weekend gave me flashbacks to an awful caravan holiday in Scarbrough when I was a kid. Throw in the fact that it costs $400 to fill it up and that I'm well below the age of 65 and I think I'll pass.

Did the HGV driving thing all over Europe so RV'ing for me is a no no. Too much like a busmans holiday.

No! I would not, I agree it would remind me too much of my poor day's when a caravan holiday was all I could afford. :D

This thread reminds me of a Frasier episode where Daphne freaked out when Dr. Frasier Crane, driving a huge RV, announced that they were now in Canada.

where's your passion!!!!
I'd love to go Rv'ing....maybe cos I never get to travel ...maybe because we was so poor when I was a kid I have no caravan nightmares to recall... :p

our good friends have a pop up camper van thing and they are always going somewhere...not too far mind....and they have A/C in the summer months!!!!

Not sure I'd fancy it too much in the States....there's way too much road and probably not too much to see in the meantime..but stick me in an R.V ,my family in Europe for the Summer and I would be happier than a pig in shit :D

I'll go RV'ing with you CA, it's not quite the same as trogging off to dorset with a caravan and a clapped out smoking Ford Sierra travelling at 40mph is it? The open road and wonderful scenery, Route 66 in an RV.....yeah baby :D

Re: Would you RV ?

We did it for 3 weeks round New zealand a few years back- it was a fantastic way to see the place. The thing we were in was nothing as big as the battlewagons you see here though....

That was when it was just the 2 of us - I fancy doing it with the family now (we did a lot of caravanning when we were young, and they were great holidays) but as someone else mentioned, the distances are a bit offputting. I fancied doing the trip up from Houston to Sf to see family, until I found that the big ones do about 6mpg, and the local rental place charges almost 500/day

So we looked at buying a caravan - till I found that the 3.5l 4wd Honda Pilot I was planning on towing with is crap - max 5000lb towing cap or something, and the 'vans are way bigger than that. And when we were kids dad used to tow ours with a 1600 triumph!! So much for progress....

Also reminds me of in About Shmidt where Jack Nicholson drives in his to the shop get milk I think, I'd never seen one before that and thought it was hilarious.
I quit fancy rolling around the country without worrying about stopping, never thought of the fuel implications though Ithink it harks back to wanting a VW campers as a kid. :)
