Default Working in the US

Hi All,

I have been thinking about moving to the US for a while, either Maryland, New York, New Jersey or Washington DC (though I won't mind moving to Boston either). I know that its a particularly hard time to move to the US with the US economy the way it is.

But I was wondering if anyone could tell me how hard it is to get a job over there and where they would look for a job that allows UK applicants.

I have a first class BA degree in psychology and sociology and a MA in market and social research and about 2 years project and research work experience.

Would my best bet be to look for a position as a research student or assistant in a university?

Any help you could give me would be much appreciated.

Welcome to BE. Unfortunately it's very difficult to move to the US unless you are American or married to an American. Read through the link in the other posts...if you tick any of the boxes then you may be in with a chance.

You would need a job offer and an employer who is prepared to pay for your visa and wait months for you to commence employment. Finding a job when you are living in a different country is very difficult. Why would an US employer spend a great deal of time and money employing someone who does not have the right to live and work here...when there are probably several hundred Americans applying for the same position?

Hi all.

Thanks so much for the feedback. I had a look at the list and guess I would qualify under Do you have an academic degree? which would be yes. I don't know if I would qualify under being a recent graduate or not. But I got my MA last year.

I am looking for a research position somewhere.

Unfortunately my company is UK based only so that a no go.

Thanks
