Yes this is very important as they scrutinizing all visa applications so thoroughly. The other issue is of course that of employing "foreigners" when there are so many unemployed in the US. Many companies are simply not allowed to apply for visas - this is the case for several positions I have applied for - they would love to employ me in an ideal world but company policy will not allow. Of course if one is senior/exec management they can get around this.
Good luck.

As someone who has gone through the employer side of the process of attempting to obtain a visa for a non-USC, I can tell you that it is not cheap, easy, fun, or guaranteed to be successful, so the person in question really has to be demonstrably better than the USC candidates. So you will need to bring something to the table that others do not to get one of those jobs. Good luck!

What about studying for a masters degree in the US? You get 12 months to work afterwards and within that time, it would be easier to find a company to sponsor you for a H1B Visa. The downside is it'll cost you nearly $50k and you won't be able to work for a year.

(OK, that would mean living in or near Trenton, which personally I wouldn't wish on anyone, but it's something to consider.)
You mean somewhere nasty like...Princeton?
