Default Work Situation in the USA

Hey,

I hold a US passport already through my Parents. I'm currently in the process of finishing off my business degree and have experience in Direct Sales and Engineering.

Whats the work situation like in NY or would Houston be a better bet.

I'm 25.

Well that won't be happening but the reason I'm asking is that I hear Houston is the best place at the moment with regards to employment?

Well I'll be honest, you have some competition but if looking for a job here, I would definitely take a vacation to where you have relatives living in the U.S. because I hear employers are not very flexible with holding interviews to people who are not within short flying distance

Company-dependent. We will fly (and pay for) mid-level software engineers from anywhere in the US and Canada for interviews. For senior and principal engineers we will fly worldwide for face-to-face interviews after the candidate has passed two 'phone screens.

However, we may be the exception rather than the norm.

But Chris' advice is good: give yourself all the chances you can. It's a tough job market, and it's not going to get much easier anytime soon...

I'd have thought a look online or on a visit would help.

Off topic, but have you registered with Selective Service, http://www.sss.gov
They won't accept registration after you turn 26.

Actually, Minneapolis is higher up the food chain than Houston just now.

Don't burst my bubble - finding work on one of the coasts is my fallback plan - and, as far as the West coast goes, I'd much prefer OR or WA over CA.
