Wo to pick/use ? Credit Rating check
Hi All,
I've watched all the TV ads about free credit rating.com etc./ etc. and heard about all the associated blurb that then goes with it .....
So, my question, Is there a simple (reliable) method of getting my credit rating with out all the tie-ins ?
Cheers,
N.

The FICO score is the number most people bandy about. The link above is the source for a no-cost credit report from the credit bureaus, but it will not include the 'score' (FICO) that most people are used to using.
This topic *just* came up in my local paper but I can't find the link because their website is from the devil, but there are some good stories on this page: http://topics.oregonlive.com/tag/cre...res/index.html
d'oh, victory!

Dear Liz: How can we obtain our credit score without paying, especially on websites? We have asked at our bank, but they say they cannot give it to us. Is that true?

Check your report regularly, though to make sure no-one is snatching your ID. If you use the free govt-mandated one, you can check one of your 3 reports every 4 months and it'll cost you nowt.
If you must have your score, use the FICO estimator here for free: http://www.bankrate.com/calculators/...alculator.aspx

If you're really desperate, fill out an application for a mortgage at your bank ***which may in of itself ding your credit***, get your credit scores from the loan officer, and not bother submitting the application.

Even if desperate I recommend not to get a hard enquiry on your credit. I could be too conservative when I think that...that's me though.

You can try this:
www.creditkarma.com
It is the only truly free service I know of that will give a credit *score*. Granted, it's not a full FICO score as it only pulls data from one of the big three (Transunion), but it will give you a good idea.
