Though you have to set up the account beforehand, of course. Though even that didn't take more than a few days, if memory serves me right. |

My Uk Building Society has no online banking, so for me the total time is about 4 days including Fedexing the passbook over. |
Re: Wire money from UK
My Dad sends a paper letter to his bank with the details on it of what he wants done. Then I get a paper letter from my bank about a week after the transfer is complete. Always get a damned good exchange rate. :D
From when my Dad's bank receives the paper letter, it takes 2 banking days. Any more and we both complain like there's no tomorrow and get a discount. :D |

Is there a minimum amount that you would do through XEtrade? $100? $500?
But why not check out their website and then give them a call? They are very helpful! |

Re: Wire money from UK
One thing I was able to 'negotiate' with my bank (Citibank Private Bank) was unlimited wire transfers for no fee. In talking with them I laid out the fact that I never knew from month to month a) where I would be and b) where my money would be coming from. After talking over and over about the different ways to do it, they finally just threw up there hands and said "how about free wire transfers?" Done/Sold!
It has worked out quite well, especially since even if you have the 'same bank' in another country it isn't always the 'same bank' (i.e. Citibank US v. Citibank UK v. Citibank HK). Might be something worth discussing with your bank. |
