Hee hee - are their winters really worse than yours? I would have thought Chicago would rank up there for brisk weather. ;)

The lake effects, it really cranks the snow out...

Personally, I would love it. I have no problem staying in hotels or the extended stay places, especially only every other week. But then, I only tend to be home for 1 week in 4 anyway, I just tour the other 3 weeks rather than being in one place.

It's not a long period either, so even if you dont like it you will get over it.

Yes, it will be very cold, but you'll get used to it, their ploughing is excellent, and snow can be good fun.

Go for it!

It's hard to explain, but I think it would be a bad move career-wise if I were to turn it down. It would be great on the resume, and I know I'd find the work interesting. The only downside is having to go/live there every other week for a few months.

K, I had a laugh reading the subject line (are you *serious*?!) but if it will be good for the long term picture, what's a few months of 'different'?
You know I've done it, and it got old after a few years, but the first time was a bit of an adventure, and the DH came over to visit every now and again.
I say, go for it. :)

apartment would be way better.

I used to hate having to get out of the hotel room so it could be cleaned - and not having my stuff around me. Mind you i was there 8 weeks so it was very dull towards the end. Not much choice on tv, been through most items on room service menu etc.

I stayed in the Mandarin Oriental in NYC for 2 weeks in January and even in a place like that I'd really had enough by the end of the 2 weeks. I dont think it matters how comfortable or nice the place is, it's not the same as having your stuff around you. A short term let would be much nicer.

I actually had a new thought today, and I WOULD be very excited if we could make it work. My husband and I actually work for the same company. There's a chance that he could work remotely from WI for the next few months, and we could essentially move north for the winter, bringing our pets and everything. I'd work at the client's office. We'd pop back for Christmas for a couple of weeks, but otherwise would live there full-time in corporate housing.

IF that could work - then it would be an adventure vs. something to endure. Keep your fingers crossed for me - a lot would have to fall in line for that to happen.

And thanks for the tips all!

OH stays away mon-thurs every week in some great hotels he tries to work long hours when he is there to avoid weekend working - he always stays in hilton or marriot and join their points reward scheme he earns thousand of points every year and we just had a week in disney world florda with the kids hotel was paid for by points and airfares by air miles so its a compromise , i also try and get the kids and me to join him, during vacation times, you will get airport delays and cancellations whether it be weather or some stupid excuse by the airlines - weather doesnt usually hold up too much only on freak occasions.

He usually eats out with collegues each evening to reduce boredam and yes he would prefer not to travel but it has its perks
