Default Will UK PS3 work in USA?

I'm moving to my grandfathers to save money while we are still in the UK, so we are packing up... I'm selling most of the eletricals...

But I don't want to sell the PS3 if it will work in USA. It was bought last year, but all the things I've seen online have conflicting answers... Some say yes, some say no...

Just wondered if any of you have travelled with your UK bought PS3 and if it works out in USA?

The ""No" seems to be for DLC stuff, or if you're subscribed to the "gold" online jobby, renewing that or getting US regioned stuff can be a pain.

DVD drive isn't regionless either, but that's not really a problem these days.

I took mine over and left it at my wifes house, after getting a new mains lead. Her son has since got lots of US games and had no problem with playing them or accessing online features.

Most games are regionless, and new content shouldn't really be a issue, it's stuff that has already been gotten that potentially is, just the DLC stuff. That and any UK/US specific media stuff like netflix/iplayer/hulu type stuff.

Netflix is a funny one, membership is global with no difference in what you connect to i.e. netflix.com but it knows geographically where you are and alters the available content accordingly. I thought it was good until I realised I got a much worse selection of content in the UK as opposed to the US. Ah well, the wife gets more benefit than I do anyway.

It will work, most games are regionless as someone else has said. WE have always run ours through a transformer thing though since getting here - is that not necessary if we get a US mains lead?

Depends on the PS3, most are dual voltage, so should be fine with a new lead, think it was really only the first gen ones that weren't, so needed a transformer.

It will work, no problems. You don't even need a new lead......I just use a travel adapter with no problems.

All games (including US) work just fine but US Blu rays don't.....however a blu-ray player over here is virtually zero cost

PS3 games are regionless, PS2 and not that anyone has first gen these days, so PS1 games don't matter, but those were regioned too on the PS3.

There are some games that can be restricted though, mostly EA sports titles do this.

The real issue is online games, some games are restricted to local servers rather than global servers, so they can be slow and shit when you move to another region and some games who do have global servers can be a bit poo when they don't allow mixed regions to play against each other, such as Army of men, you can't shoot your own side despite the team lay out, COD and the like too, can't shoot other US soldiers as a US soldier, but if you're set from another region you could, this can make it a bit funky.

The DVD drive is also regioned. These days the movie play back isn't really a issue though.

My hubby has a PS3 - does it matter how old they are? He bought his about 3 years ago. Will that be ok with either an adaptor or US mains lead?

Thanks!

It'll say if it's dual voltage or not, 110-240v.

First gen PS3 is coming up to six years old now anyway, so no, it won't be a issue if he got a new one.
