Default Will I ever get the hang of this?

I just can't seem to remember that Americans (or most of those I have met at least) take things so literally, which is perhaps why our sense of humour troubles them so. Usually I remember but this morning, on returning from taking my daughter to the school bus pick up point, I passed a neighbour trudging, like me, through the early morning snow.
He said, Howdy - and I said - Warm enough for ya? With a big smile. He looked fully confused, looked around and said - dude, it's snowing!!?!??

Erm.....yes....it's snowing. Ah well. As all of my school reports said - must try harder!!! ha ha
