Thats awful - terrible for the guy that died, but I bet his co-workers feel like sh*t too :(

No overtime pay. I'd have deducted for him "sleeping" on the job. :D

That is one sad story though.

:(

That story reminded me of when I was a counter clerk at a city centre Crown (main) Post Office back in the 1980s. I always hated Thursdays as it was/is pension day. There would be dozens of old codgers waiting outside the Post Office as we arrived for work, but it was a sort of social event for the oldies as they used to love to have a chat with each other whilst they were queueing up.

One old fellow signed his pension docket and I was counting out his pound notes and change. Just as I was about to push it under the security grille, he collapsed. One of my colleagues had just completed a first-aid course and did mouth-to-mouth rescuscitation whilst I ran for a blanket, pillows and called for an ambulance. (This was before the days of mobile phones). You can imagine a very large and crowded Post Office full of pensioners having a terrible shock at the scene in front of them.

Sadly, the old man had died. I did know that since he hadn't actually received the money, technically the DSS could have reclaimed the money to go back into the 'public purse'. I did the moral thing and put the money into an envelope and it was handed to his widow (who wasn't there at the time) who called in a few days later. She sent in a lovely note afterwards thanking the PO staff.
