My pioneer just needed a specific sequence of buttons pushed to turn it from a US DVD player to a multi region player.
I got the code from a web site, I can't remember the one but I will find it and post it later.
The recode procedure took about 30 seconds .
So that worked just fine? I found some codes for my DVD player, but I have been scared to program it up until now because I read somewhere that it could screw up the DVD player...or is that just a legend?

That's not really true, a mod-chip installation gone badly wrong could screw up a player, but putting codes in on the remote is perfectly safe. If you put in the wrong code, the player just won't recognize it, that's all.

I'll definitely have to try it then! Like I said I've been putting it off, but with everyone saying they've been successful I will give it a go. Thanks a bunch!

Checkout the Philips DVD-726/727

Around $70-$90 here. Can be made region-free via the keypad (see here - http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdhacks.php...hilips+DVD+726). Great thing about this player is that it can play any disc from any region once the simple hack has been applied, and can output in either PAL (UK) or NTSC (US) TV formats. As a bonus it also has component output for an HDTV if you have one!
