The US (particularly the government) appears to be reactive, not proactive. Hence, the Patriot Act and the NSA took center stage after 9/11.

On the other hand, Britain and many other nations have had to deal with foreign terrorists attacking their citizens on their own soil for decades, maybe even centuries.

Sheesh. When I lived and worked in London, I dealt with daily delays and closures of streets, the Tube, etc. due to bomb scares and my Dad's workplace in the City had its windows blown out by the IRA back in '96 (or was it 95?).

Those are my thoughts and if that rings true to you at all, some karma wouldn't go amiss! Thanks,

I know its a hell of a long time ago, but the British had to go through world wars on their home ground, with blitz and bombs of all kinds and privation and rationing and yet still got through it all calmly and still smiling, and all without any counselling. They had to hack it all and get on with it.

Since then there have been terrorist bombs in many parts of the UK and still life had to go on as if nothing had happened.

The Americans have never had to undergo any of that until 9/11 but even that horror could not be compared with the conditions Brits had to endure for years. I remember one thread in this forum a while back about a security alert on the London tube which meant evacuation from the tube station. An American just could not understand how and why the Brits just left the station quietly and in an orderly fashion while he was freaking out.
