What is it with Hollywood? Just saw Timeline at the movies and once again its the Brits who are the evil sadistic bad guys whilst the chirpy French are herioc freedom fighters! The bloody French!!

Britains about the only friend the USA has right now and beside that wee thing in 1776 and in 1812 we havent had a war in ages so why do all bad guys have to be Brits? Is there some scriptwriter in Hollywood who had bad time in Britain or something? or is that we are the only minority(in US terms) that can be pilloried without it seeming racist?

were always the bad guys becuase we the brits are stereotyped as snobbish and arrogant. Also in the last 2 hundred years we've pissed off just about every country in the world, cos we conquered half of it and then got chucked out of it and not in a friendly manner either.

It's because the Brits have posh accents and the French have weird accents, which causes Americans to alternately laugh at and pity the French.

I don't know though, they don't always make us the bad guys, look at the film independence day, those aliens were kicking the Americans ass, then we came along in the final fight and settled there ash.

It's not just that we always seem to play the bad guys. Whenever you have a British character on any American televison show they are usually stuck-up, arrogant, big headed, and totally unlikable. And not just in the sitcoms either.

But then if you think about it in most films nearly everyones American so they mock themselves just as much. It's all given and take. As well as it been harmless fun, somebodys got to be mocked, as long as it dosn't become insulting.
