Employer coverage? Or possibly a limited benefits plan... $120 a month typically gets a 55 year old little in terms of individual comprehensive coverage. If so, it'll pay 100% after the $5k deductible - of the defined benefits for that plan.

He said "high deductible" which is a specific type of full coverage policy, but with a very high deductible, and is typically linked to a Health Savings Account (which works like a 401K). I have such a policy myself, and while doesn't reduce my outgoings much, my HSA has a healthy, and growing, balance to meet out-of-pocket medical expenses.

One thing I have noticed about moving to or living in America is that people are always "filing" things. There's always something to "file" with a government department of some kind or other.

Yes! And there is confusion created. For example, It is a common misconception that "Filing Taxes" equates to paying taxes

What's up with payroll! What on earth do they do over here? Pay is direct deposit from a company in Canada- if you're not salary the manager adjusts the time for clocking in and you file your taxes- wt?? I need to work In payroll-

Believe it or not, the reason my wife and I moved out here was a bottle of Plax!! My wife is a US Citizen, and lived with me in the UK for about 7 years. Anyway, one day I was out doing some shopping and she asked me to pick up a bottle of Plax for her. Went to Tesco's, got it, £1.80-something, I seem to remember, for a tiny bottle. Next day, I happened to be in Costco down near Watford for something, saw the same size bottle of Plax -- 73p!! That was it, that day we decided we'd had enough of being ripped off!!

Strangely enough, if I buy something from Albertsons, Safway or Fred Meyer, it's usually a lot more expensive than Costco. Personally, I could live without the $1200 per year car insurance, $60 per month for basic cable, $80 per month for 8Mbps Internet access, $675 per month for health insurance, $3+ for a decent loaf of bread, 6% realtor fees, $3000+ per year property tax, etc. Nope. Don't feel ripped off at all.
