How on earth can anyone know what someone else likes to do on holiday or where they might possibly want to go. The fact that they're from Australia doesn't help at all: perhaps they'd be happiest hopping around the outback on a kangaroo rather than surfing in San Diego or skiing in Vermont. I mean, you don't even say which 2 weeks - which season? Do they want to ski, surf, hike, swim, eat or hire hookers whilst gambling and getting drunk? You really didn't think this one through.

Hawaii - if nothing else it is a couple of thousand miles close to Australia than the rest of the US ...

I'd be hard pressed to say where you could best go for 2 weeks in the UK let alone a contry this vast. Do you want to do what you like doing in Oz but in a different location or do something totally foreign to anything you find at home?

Seattle/Tacoma: most of the time it's wet and populated by caffeine crazed zombies but if you like sailing it's a great place to start.

Las Vegas: I don't believe any country has anything like Sin City but don't squander more than a couple of days, by that time you will have seen most of what it has to offer.

Destin/Fort Walton Beach: on the Florida pan handle. White sand, good fishing, great seafood (with the BP logo on every bite).

Washington DC: Only unless you're into museums and monuments but take a day trip Annapolis which is a wonderfull little town on the Cheasapeak Bay, lots of history, Naval Academy, good bars & restaurants.

Icould go on but won't the rest depends on your budget, time of year and personal likes & dislikes.

Try narrowing your inquiries a little if you want better advice.

I love the way the poll lists 10 states, then lumps the other 40 together as "other".
Not that I have anything against the festering, decaying, cess-pit of a dump that is Illinois , but what made you pick Illinois over, say, "Alaska", "Wyoming", "Washington", "Louisiana", etc? I understand why Oklahoma didn't make it. But, why those particular 10?

California is no longer a part of the US, not since they abandoned the Constitution. Texas, well that is another story all together.

I love the idea of a tourist going to Tacoma.

Illinois can be a bit of a shithole, right enough.

I was thinking of Prudhoe Bay, Alaska.

It's nice in January and February.

It's a bit Muslims trekking to Mecca, at least once in their lifetime.

Qantas will soon be offering a daily non-stop service from Sydney to Mackinac Island Airport using their Airbus A-380s.;)

What is wrong with Wisconsin? Big producers of cheese and cranberries! We all love a bit of cheese :)
