How is the cold is NH and the mid-west? Is it damp like the UK or is it dry like in Montana?

Depends where you live in NH/ME/MA...but I'd it's pretty dry cold, that after a couple of years, you'd be out in your shorts when it hits 35F out.

If you're on the coast, it's more damp though.

Summers are humid and hot though.

The whole Sierra Nevada area is very dry, that might be worth considering. I had a problem with the humidity in the UK also, out here, no problem. It also doesn't get stupidly cold, at least not in this area.

In my experience you are likey to get little to no interest from potential employers when you are outside the country, and speaking as a hiring manager, given the current state of the economy, I am only considering applicants that do not already live within commuting distance if they are truly extraordinary.
