Average monthly maxes for June, July and August are 68, 69, and 69 respectively. The hottest time of year is actually Sep/Oct when the fog goes away with maxes of 71 and 70 respectively.

Any place within 20 miles of the coast in California is not hot during the summer but very mild. Also unlike the east coast, humidity is not a problem since the wind comes from the north while it comes from the south on the east coast.

Yeah, but he's not going to get a 4 bedroom, big garden house in nice area for $300,00 in Bay Area of California, is he?

1) Good house. 3-4 bedrooms. Big garden. Maximum $300,000. Near schools. Kind of semi rural. Not in a city but not in the sticks either.

2) I hate extreme heat. Must have cold, snowy winters.

3) Great area for children (the whole of the USA seems to fit this really)

I have been to Chicago many times I love it....A bit too "city life" for me. But generally it's nice.

Anywhere better than this that fits my criteria?

Thx
Maine fits all of this. It is usually in the top 3 states for raising children, has cold and snowy winters, the odd really hot humid day broken by a crashing thunderstorm and reasonable housing costs.

You are not coming here though so its a moot point.

Your exaggeration knows no bounds

We are talking Central Coastal California in August for Christ's sake. Freezing doesn't even enter into it in January.

Winter jacket...pffut..we would be wearing shorts and t-shirts

I never go to Fisherman's Wharf - tourist country But what makes me laugh is the number of tourists you do see in t shirt/shorts complaining about the cold; I mean a couple of minutes research would tell 'em that a southern Californian summer it ain't.And it has been cold enough this month to have had the heat on in my apartment several evenings.

I remember it getting up into the 30's at some point this past winter and nearly cracked the shorts out and fired up the grill.
