Where do you say you are from!
The reason I ask is this I have many americans ask me this as do we all, and today I was in the local car store in UK, and the guy helping me said, "where do you tell folk your from" when your in America!!
Well I am a Brit so I tell folk I am from the UK  What do you say? ie Scotland, Wales, England, or the UK, British Isles (that would through them lol)or Great Britain!! Yes dumb question but curious.....what does bother me is when I get the answer "oh the UK is that in England" |

Is "car store" a quaint Norfolk term for car dealership or a typo? ;) |

Scotland, cos it's so much fun to hear that they are 1/2 scottish or irish and that we are practically related. Also love it when they ask (or ax) what language we speak

Re: Where do you say you are from!
I was once asked, if I was from Texas.
So, depending on my mood, if asked, I tell them I'm from Texas. Otherwise, I just say I'm English. |
Re: Where do you say you are from!
When I spot a British person over here, and ask where they are from, they will often say London. (That's if I use my ambiguous accent.) When I push and say where exactly, they'll usually tell me, but you can tell they don't expect the average American to have a clue. Prejudiced by stereotype!
And Great Britain isn't called Great because of any historical reason such as Empire. It's because of the geography - in that we are part of the Greater British Isles. The more you know! |
Re: Where do you say you are from!
I say England, UK or Britain, but I think I say England more often.

Your lucky if I said Norwich they would look at me like I was an Alien, but you are right, most of them think London is the only location in the UK.
Just as people tend to think that the only city in New York is New York City.:curse: |
