Default Where to buy a whole house full of furniture!

Hi All,

We have been renting furniture for the last 6 months, but next week we move into somewhere slightly more permanent, and at the same time we will be waving goodbye to the rented furniture. We are moving into a 3500ft house and we have one sofa bed a couple of chairs and a couple of tv's. Any suggestions where to go to buy the rest? I Idon't mind spending money if it's worth it, but I do like a good bargain and I'll happily put in the hours to get it!!! Here is where I have looked so far (all online as I am on hols in England at the mo!!):

Ikea
K Mart
Walmart
Pottery Barn
JC Penney
Value City Furniture
Target
Restoration Hardware
Overstock.com
Crate & Barrel
Home Depot
Freecycle

I have exhausted the options I can think of now so any suggestions will be greatly appreciated

Thanks
Suzi

K-Mart, WalMart and Home Depot sell furniture? When we moved here we did one stop shopping and bought everything at Ikea. In retrospect I would have saved our money and bought nicer things when we bought our house. But, hey ho, its only money.....

no idea what style you're into but personally I hate the majority of American furniture stores, most of it looks like something my granny would have had 30 years ago..all this french country style everyone here seems to be into is horrid..

www.westelm.com has some nice stuff, modern in style, reminds me a little of Habitat back in the UK, their bedding is good and reasonably priced but they don't have many stores so you'd have to buy without seeing it and shipping can get pricey..

www.roomandboard.com has things from very modern to very traditional, excellent quality furniture that should last a lifetime but expensive..

www.plummers.com reminds me of Ikea but much better quality and not much more expensive, they have stores all over the country but are called something different in other states, the website should tell you the store name in your part of the country..

www.storehouse.com is another, bit too traditional for me but still o.k..

www.boconcept.com modern european style furniture, again not many stores around though but I love it..

I would buy a selection of local house type magazines, they will have listings of local stores, thats how I found most of the places I bought my stuff from..

Only money? How much life energy do you have to expend to earn it though? Interesting read - "Your Money or Your Life":

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/014...lance&n=283155

(NB: I would not go as far as describing the stuff that KM, WM + OD sell as 'furniture'. You can better stuff for FAR less $$$ at a quality thrift store...)

Several suggestions:

Consignment shops
Furniture rental stores (often selling for new stock at very low prices)
moving sales listed in the newspaper (your section of the country is ripe for quick turn over of people do to the loss of government employment, IT jobs in NO. VA and relocation)

P.S. A 3500 sq.ft. house in your location? Guess you are right, money is not an issue for you.

Quite a lot actually! I was surprised when I looked at their websites, I think some of it is online only, but still....

This is a fantastic list with styles that are right up my street. I find the American style stuff overly fussy for my taste a lot of the time, and love Scandinavian sleek lines and minimalism. I had forgotten that bo concept were in the US, and there's a store in Georgetown, just about 15 minutes from me Thank you so much for this great list!! K on it's way to you too....

you can get some great bargains at www.overstock.com I bought a duvet cover and a goose down comforter. Really pleased with the quality, especially the comforter Egyptian cotton and is as smooth as a babies bottom.
