Whats your tipple?

Re: Whats your tipple?
Sorry, can't handle Margaritas - tummy can no longer handle hard liquor. Surprised my OH by really enjoying Newcastle Brown Ale on tap. (Don't much like the bottled one). Can't stand other beers (American or otherwise) but love my Newcastle Brown. Introduced me to a "Shandy" - I know, I know, an old lady's drink - but gets me tipsy more innocuously. He likes Stella Artois and Newcastle, preferably on draught, but both are hard to find in these parts. Easy to find in bottles, but not on tap.

Went to the local wine bar last night, had 4 different bubbly wines, very summery and lovely they were too

Sure! He's in Manhattan, so I'll allow him a little leeway.
Truth is, you can use any citrus fruit you want. Even grapefruit can make a tasty margarita. People usually think of stereotypical limes, but they tend to be very inconsistent, especially batch to batch. Use them if you want. Most New Mexican bars use lemon because it provides a consistent and less tart base. If you want a bit more of an edge, you can add some lime, preferably key lime, to the lemon. For tourists who don't know better, they just put a slice of lime on top of a lemon-based margarita to stop them asking questions. At home, I have a small meyer lemon tree that makes awesome margaritas a couple of times a year.
Never use mixes, use only fresh squeezed juice. Use 100% de agave tequila (a good bet if you're having a party is a big bottle of Hornitos from Costco – keep the better stuff for yourself), and a good orange liquor like Cointreau or Grand Marnier. Bargain basement triple sec or cheap tequila makes for a nasty drink.

Adobe, they all sound delicious but I think I will require full sampling before I can decide.

Re: Whats your tipple?
Come to NYC Meauxna and I'll make you a margarita on the house! Not going to get into a how to make drinks discussion. I think after 25 years and several drink competition awards I might know what I'm doing!

Re: Whats your tipple?
For the next 14 days it will be the delectable Seneca Lake, New York wines. From the Pompous Ass Winery to the Reneck Winery and all the ones inbetween I will be tippling and swaying to my inner music.

Mmm...
My favourite tipples, ranked from the top, are:
1. Mint Chocolate Baileys with ice
2. Malibu and Diet Coke
3. Ice cold sweet white wine (something like a Riesling)
4. Dacquiri - raspberry or strawberry
5. Champagne
I have a bit of a sweet tooth...

Re: Whats your tipple?
That takes me back, I discovered Southern Comfort when I was first here and loved the stuff. I think it was the Janis Joplin influence that made me try it! I'd get green just sniffing it nowadays. Red wine is the only drink I really enjoy now, especially a nice Aussie Shiraz.
