I'm with you on the kidney, eel and mushy peas though.

The next weird thing I saw I had to take a picture of it so people back in England would believe it. It was at a super market near New Orleans, and it was a jar of pickled pigs lips.
Needless to say I am packing as many pot noodles with me when I head off to MS.

Ah - but what about the catfish! You'll be eating plenty of that. Fried Catfish. With Fried Bread. And Fried Potatoes. And Fried Something Else.
And one plate will be enough to feed a family of 4!
But most likely no

Grits (love 'em. I prefer stoneground and non-instant)
Biscuits and gravy (only for breakfast)
hog jowl (pig's cheek)
Green bean casserole- don't like this 'cos the beans are well overcooked
Brunswick stew but still looking for the real recipe containing squirrel
Red velvet cake- I really don't care for the color
German chocolate cake: who knows if this is really German and whether Germans still eat it. It's filled and covered with coconut pecan frosting.
Egg cream which is a drink that doesn't contain egg or cream. It's quite nice actually. I think it's made with ice cream and soda water. I tried a strawberry egg cream.
Boiled peanuts- I love them but my American spouse doesn't care for them and he was part raised in the South.
SC barbecue which is mustard based. That's American mustard and certainly not Coleman's!
Not weird as such but in NC, when you order an NC barbecue sandwich, the coleslaw will frequently be served in the bun too.
Red coleslaw which is found in Western NC (I believe). It's red 'cos the barbecue sauce, which is red, is mixed with the slaw. I prefer regular white coleslaw.
Souse
Liver mush
Liver pudding

After a few bites my wife told me to be careful not to eat any of the buckshot or the small squirrel bones! Turns out that this special stew was something from the days of the depression where they had to use any meat they could. I couldn't eat any more of it due to the thought of eating fluffy tree rat. I found out that one of the freezers was loaded with all sorts of meat, including Deer, Possum and Snake. Ever since then I make sure I see the Grocery store packet that the meat is in before they start cooking.
Anyone else had anything "weird" to eat, either knowingly or unknowingly.
