Default What's this about Home Depot??

When it comes to stories like this one, I have my eyes and ears closed.

I saw this article on CNN's Web site:

Home Depot film out of the box

What the heck is this about??

Is it Miami residents feeling too superior for a Home Depot store or does it run much deeper than that?

Not heard about this one before.

I haven't read your link cos I've got to gerroff the computer and into work, but there's a backlash against all "big box" stores. People find the vanishing of all mom-and-pop hardware stores, grocery stores, etc due to these massively sized retailers, all a bit scary -- after the euphoria of lo lo prices wears off.

Oh dear, my second home I'm assuming it's a wealthy neighbourhood, so it's OK for the contractor to have to drive 10 miles to the nearest one to pick up supplies for their new additions though. Makes me seeth

They've still got mom & pop-ish grocery stores here in Austin, but then we fight the big box movement. We have lots of Home Depots though, as a result of the building boom, and very few local hardware stores left.

You missed them by a few years.

Also big boxers like HD and Wally World are trying to serve all of the US with the same goods, which aren't appropriate for local tastes or even needs. They should be charged, for example, for grievous bodily harm to plants, cos they sell the same ones round the country who are destined to die in some of the climates they go into. They aren't flexible enough to truly serve the unique and individual communities they steal business and jobs from.

Man, I'm going to be in a "***** off ye bastards" mood today if I don't stop now.

I would've thought home depot was perfectly suited to down here to be honest. A million identical strip malls surrouded by a million identical homes and condos all surrounded by identical palms.

Was the Post Office earlier. They have a new machine thingie in there that I hadn't seen before. Was just browsing it, and an older American fella was mumbling under his breath how these machines are taking jobs away from folk, and he's right.

I refuse to do the self-checkout thing at the grocery stores for that very reason. If they could, they'd have one person working the entire store and machines everywhere. I prefer the human contact thankyouverymuch.

Wally's had a whale of a time trying to build a S/C a few miles down the road....

its exactly the same, it even smells the same when you walk in, if I'm feeling a bit home sick I go in close my eyes and I could be in the Leeds Road branch in Huddersfield..
