8-5 here and I take an hour for lunch if everyone is working, if not then I stay in the office and can claim 9 hours.

Every other Saturday I have to check lab samples, usually takes an hour and this is given as comp time and at double time. The comp time certainly helps bump up my time off during the year

7-4 here. 1 hour for lunch, get moaned at if I don't take the full hour. Not allowed to do OT or work "off hours", which is a real pain in the arse working in IT.

Holidays aren't too bad, 4 weeks plus the Christmas/NY week, 3 days at T-giving, memorial day and labor day

My husband chooses to go in and be there for 6am and leaves work around 2:30. This includes usually an hour lunch although the lunch could be at his desk or "working" with his colleagues. The other office he was in was more structured and his work day was 6am to 6pm with an hour for lunch. He worked 3.5 days a week at those hours. That was kind of nice because he always had a long weekend. And he gets 21 days a year for holiday time.

8 to 5 with one hour unpaid lunch. No holiday entitlement at all. No paid overtime.

What grips my s**t is the smokers. 6 x 10 min smoke breaks a day = 5 hours a week = 20 hours a month = 240 hours a year = 10 days!!!! 10 days extra paid time for smoking.

Brb, going for a smoke......

I generally get here about 6:15 and leave at 2:30. Lunch is very flexible, it can be a bag of chips at my desk or a 2hr trip to a decent restaurant as long as we have a light schedule and everything is covered. I have no issues telling the boss I'm leaving a little early if I need too. Well, unless he's already left early...

I just realised, 240 hours of smoke breaks a year equates to 6 x 40 hour working weeks of paid time.

I work part time and do not have fixed hours, I usually work between 30-35 hours per week. We use a time card and you are required to take a 30 min unpaid lunch if you work 8 hours or more. You have to punch out for your lunch and the time clock will not allow you to punch back in until the 30 is done. If you do not take your lunch admin will hound you (screws up pay roll). I always thought of it as a bit of a pain in the arse but reading some of these stories might not be so bad.

No, no my friend, it's worse than that. Divide the 240 hours by 8hrs and this is equal to 30 working days/year. An extra 6 working weeks.

EDIT: Oops, see that you already saw this.

Technically I'm salaried for 8hrs a day, 40hrs a week but being a pilot, my actual work hours vary week to week. Some weeks I might be on reserve all week therefore no work then others might be flying all night long. O/T is flat rate but we don't get that often because it only applies if we go over 14hrs duty. Regardless of what schedule I have, every 5th week is off, paid 3 weeks vacation a year but only 'cos I've been in the company almost 9 years. Right now I'm on sick leave waiting for an operation to be scheduled. Lucky me, all those medical bills

I am required to be here by 7:20 am and I can leave at 2:50 pm with a paid 30 min lunch. I cannot leave during the school buiding though. I am always here early and leave late as it is a salaried job and my days go better if I put in the extra time to prepare for class instead of showing up when the bell rings.

Not that I'm one to complain, but . . . my hubby is salaried and works in healthcare management. His day is from 8 a.m. til 6 - 6:30 p.m. with about a half hour lunch if he can squeeze it in to his day. He is only paid 40 hours, but as you can see he puts in much more. Also, he can only take one week vacation off at a time (he gets 2) and rarely gets the opportunity to take comp time off.

Have to be thankful that he has a job!
