My parents have just annouced that they're coming over for a visit in a few months. First things first, I need to make a list of UK-only things I miss that I want them to bring over. So far my list is :
Digestives
Hob Nobs
HP Sauce
Hula Hoops
DVD of 2nd season of Phoenix nights
Oxo gravy granules.

I know you can buy all this stuff online but why pay extortionate internet shopping fees when mum and dad can bring it for free!
So what would you all want bringing over?

Do the Oxo gravy granules contain any meat products? If so, your parents are likely to have that confiscated at Customs on the USA side.

Not sure how the biscuits will stand the journey in the plane ride. Ditto HP in a bottle. If comes in plastic (like the salad cream and tomato sauce does these days), have them bring the plastic version instead.

Duly noted thanks penguin, but my mother is the queen of packaging and has sent HP sauce through the mail before now, last time she came over she sat with thorntons chocs on her knee the whole way bless 'er
I'll have to tell her that when she goes through customs to shove the oxo back up where I came out of

The last obsession I had from our uniformed friends at Customs ably and diligently defending the nation was: "Is it factory sealed by the manufacturer?" They seemed to be obsessed with picking apart anybody's food items that were wrapped from the deli counter or otherwise seemed home packaged.

Over the last 6 years and 10 transatlantic round trips, we've successfully moved every conceivable product and packaging in our checked baggage, and have only lost 1 jar of Smuckers Peanut Butter! Definitely recommend bagging anything that would make a mess, if broken.

Gifts we take to the US: Kindereggs, Fairy Liquid, Thorntons, and whatever Walker's latest wacky flavour crisps are

Essentials I bring back to the UK: peanut butter, Crisco butter sticks, BBQ sauce, toothpaste, legal pills & potions (cheaper in bulk!)

Wish list for hubby when we move to the US: course cut marmalade, Bisto, Yorkshire Puds mix
