What should I pack?

I'm moving to Columbus in a fortnight for work and my company is paying for five boxes to be shipped from my UK house to my new house. I'll be taking most of my necessities, clothes and my laptop on the flight with me so other than a few extra bits and pieces I can't really imagine what I'm actually going to need. I don't see any point in packing any other electronics, DVDs or anything due to compatibility issues. I know as soon as I get there I will probably regret leaving something material behind. I'm really just looking for ideas! Was there anything you immediately missed upon your arrival? Thanks in advance.

Might want to take the DVDs with you - allegedly many players can have their region locking removed though I've never tried it myself.

Better still is to rip all of your music and video to your hard drive or an external drive. Then transfer them to a backup drive when you get here. I got one of these: http://wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=570 Very easy to setup and use and has a 1TB drive as well - more than enough for most people.

Most players, except Sony seem easy enough to do.

As for what to bring, depends if you're moving into temp accommodation or not. If you're moving straight into your own pad and it doesn't have anything, a set of can/bottle openers in the suitcase might be handy for the first few nights food.

As at the present time I would suggest a fur hat with ear muffs, a thick scarf, heavy overcoat over a Shetland jumper, woollen gloves and snow boots fitted with undersole spikes....and a flask of Glenfiddich.

Is it Columbus, Ohio? The reason I am asking is I know there are other states with cities named Columbus. If it's in Ohio, you will need very warm clothing - absolutely bloody freezing here right now. I'm not in Columbus (I lived in the Cleveland suburbs) but I believe the whole state is under a deep freeze (actually one third of the country is).

Hi, yes it is indeed Columbus, OH. Sorry, should have been more specific! I will bear in mind the cold weather, that is excellent advice. And thanks for all the other suggestions! Feel free to keep 'em coming!

Yikes - I didn't realize there were that many!! I think Columbus, Ohio is probably the largest though - it is a fairly large city and the home of Ohio State University (almost a city in itself).
