OK, how about mini apple pies that look like mince pies? I forget the brand name but we used to get little individual apple pies in London because I didn't like the mince ones.

"Mr Kipling bakes an exceedingly good pie".

Not as good as my mum though

Oo gingerbread is a good suggestion.

I also thought in the middle of the night that I could make a Yule Log, I'm not sure my talents run that far though.

Mulled wine. I'd love to see them kiddies hopped up on that.

OR: Christmas cake? Mmm... marzipan...

They're really easy, because if you cock up you just spread more icing sugar over it!

If they simply want you to send in something you would traditionally have at the holidays, send in a bottle or two of Champagne. Tell them it's New Year's!

(Sorry, I'll go back to my assigned section now. )

You're more than welcome to frequent our forums, one and all. Although I think champagne for a school event is a little ott.

I'm sure you make turkey in the UK. Do you have a special dressing that you make for your bird? Perhaps with oysters or chestnuts? If so, why not make that for the event instead of dessert.

While you don't celebrate TG in the UK, you do celebrate other holidays so go with one of the special desserts earmarked for those occasions. Is there a special dessert pudding?

have you thought of Parkin cake..Its really easy and you just need to slice it up into individual pieces..

Even Eccles cakes..or a victoria sponge sliced up..

Having your kid take mince pies for a school holiday party will surely have him ostracised until...well...forever, as "that kid who brings in mince pies." They will NOT go over well with kids.

From my first holidays in the UK - I remember....wine, beer, crackers (yes! Those pull things that we really don't use here in USA, but you can find them in World Market, and our crackers are saltines...for cheese... anyhow...), spongy cakes with jams in them...how about one of those?

I doubt fruit cake will go over well either.

Apple cobbler is always nice. (When I think UK dessert, though, I think bannoffee pie!)

Just remember, these are kids you're trying to impress...... Unless you want your stuff to get thrown in the garbage (been there, done that) better think on their level.

Ah its not just the kids though. The feast is for all the kids and parents.

Anyhow, decided Yule Log it is, who doesn't like chocolate cake rolled around chocolate butter icing, layered with chocolate butter icing. Where can it go wrong?
