Hi guys,

Was just wondering what impact a Trump Presidency will have on marriage based visas?

We're going to be submitting soon, just wondering if anything will happen regarding a huge immigration reform in the next 6-12 months or so? I know Trump doesn't take office until the 20th January, but still, any thoughts?

I'm having this moved to the general forum. It is not an immigration question.

Trump will have no effect on marriage-based visa immigration. His platform, afaik, was based on illegal immigrants, not on visa based immigration.

If I had a crystal ball then I would tell you, as I don't then like everyone else you will have to wait. He was full of rhetoric about what he would do, but he has absolutely NO record in politics, so he will be on a very steep learning curve about what he can, and can't do.

I really think we'll be alright, I don't think he'll get in and start slamming down hard on legal immigration - I think illegal immigration is his thing. I think the most we might see is harder scrutiny of applicants etc.

I doubt there'll be much change in marriage-based visas at all - given that Donald Trump's wife and mother are/were both immigrants.

A realistic guess would be that costs will go up. The fees are supposed to pay for the effort required, are they not? If added steps / checks are involved in the process then it would be the applicant footing the bill for the increased costs involved.
