Default What do you pay to insure two cars?

We've only ever had one car in the almost 5 years that we've been here, it's an eight year old small SUV and we pay $136 per month for it.

We will be getting an additional car in the next couple of months, trying to get an online insurance quote is really tiresome and I don't have a credit score so it's pretty hopeless really to do it that way. I will try and call our insurance agent this week but I guess I just wanted a ballpark figure for budgeting purposes and wanted to know what others paid?

I don't know what kind of car but it would be a smaller vehicle (camry or similar) probably at least 5 years old.

It's almost one of those "how long is a piece of string" questions. We pay around $1300 per year for 3 cars; An Infiniti G37X, a Toyota Prius and a Honda Passport. Then again, we're in Oregon, have been here almost 12 years and have top tier credit.
Looking at our policy, we don't seem to get any sort of multi-car discount. If you're in the same boat, you could take a ball-park of doubling your current payment and going from there.

thanks, I wondered if there was typically a discount for two vehicles with the same insurer but perhaps that is not standard.

We pay $90 a month with Liberty Mutual for a F150 and a Hyundai Tucson. We bundle with the house and boat so I think that helped, plus good credit and OH has been in the US 9 years.

We pay $90 per month for 2 cars with State Farm - a 2002 Honda CR-V and a 2007 Mustang GT. We do get a multi-vehicle discount.

We were paying about $75 per month for a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan and now pay about $120 for a 2000 Ford Taurus and the GC. So about 1.6x for two cars. So many variables though.

I'd say anything from 50-100% more....but you should get some kind of discount for multiple policies from the same place, but get best discount with home/renters insurance etc.

Like in the UK, I use an insurance broker. They usually shop around for me. Last time I talked to them I wanted to drop a car from my policy as I hadn't been driving it for a little while and he actually told me to keep it on the policy as it was giving me a discount big enough to make it worthwhile.

I have no idea how he figured it out, but then again I don't work in insurance.

It's always better with a multi line discount. I was paying $146 pm with State Farm on a single car (2011 Hyundai Elantra) but as I've just bought a house, Allstate did it for $110 pm with their house insurance. 100/300 coverage and uninsured motorist included. That's pretty good for South FL.

We pay $58/month for a 2010 Mercedes GLK350 and $67/month for a 2008 Mercedes CLK550. This includes a good driver discount, multiple policy discount and a distinguisher driver discount with Allstate.

The only problem with everyone quoting the premium they pay, is that it means nothing without knowing the level of cover. As there are many various levels of cover for numerous options getting the cheapest insurance can just mean you have very little real cover.
