Default What do ya do Christmas Eve?

Doing something a bit different this year, since we are expected in Phoenix on Christmas day, we have decided to go down the day before. Think I will check out the george and Dragon British style pub on Christmas eve and see if there is a good atmosphere in there unless anyone else in Phoenix has a better recomendation?

Christmas Eve used to be a great drinking night. The pubs would stay open late and you'd meet people you hadnt seen all year at the town's christmas tree.
Here? I guess a few drinks during the day and pressies at night?

That and you could stop by the midnight mass on the way home since it was open, warm and serving wine for free ?

Guess I amtrying to recapture that by going to a British style pub, dunno if that will be a success or not, but hey it's worth a shot.

Well, since it's probably got a 21 years or older entrance age, we're staying at home with the kids... and trying to persuade them that it would be good to get a reasonably early night ! fat chance.

Better than sitting at home
I'd check the pub out if you havent already, before the big night. I've been disappointed a lot in UK-style pubs in the US.

We usually have Christmas dinner on Christmas eve ... full sit down with all the trimmings. Then on Christmas day we can eat when we want to and best of all I dont get stuck in the kitchen.

Merry Christmas folks

Jan

Oh I have been there before and like the pub well enough, just don't know if it will manage to capture the feel of a Christmas Eve atmosphere. But they do sell Bodingtons and the food isn't too bad so I will end up happy one way or the other.

I've been to the George & Dragon on Central & it's alright! Actually has quite a British feel to it & the Roast Dinner we had in there was good too, like the one's back home with plenty of yummy mint sauce! mmmmmmmmm

no big plans here...may check out the pubs around but they're nothing special, not like the Christmas Eve's at home where we'd have a lock in...here the parties over by 10PM at the latest...still they try but as we know there's no place like home.
