What did/do you do to pass time?
I've just arrived in Michigan on a K-1. Faced with a few months of unemployment what have other expats done to span the time from when you arrive to the time you can work?

Learn something. I mean, a few months, plenty of time, you could learn a few things from how to ride a motorcycle, basic scuba diving, or go to one of the online university course offerings (iTunes U) or something and pickup something totally random.

I didnt work untill I had been here about 8 months i think.
I passed time by:
forum browsing,
reading the news daily locally here, news for america, the bbc, and for back home
playing facebook games (seriously try Restaurant City)
playing video games,
walking around the area (i dont drive)
doing AOS stuff,
opening bank accounts
getting my name on everything my husband has (great for immigration stuff)
getting a cell phone
volenteering for charity work
spending time playing pool with my husband and his friends (great for immigration again because you can get photos and affidavits from them!)

I bicker with idiots on the internet.
You could take up shooting - it's pretty popular in Michigan and it doesn't cost much to get into, does it? Good way to meet people (of a certain type, obviously).
Do a night class.
Build a shed. Sit in it.

I'm just north of Lansing. Stuck in a small village! I've been looking for football leagues but men's leagues seem uncommon, at least in the centre of the state. I may just have to become a ps3 champ (when my ps3 arrives!).
