OK I walking around my garden earlier (watering a few of my flowers) when around the trees I find loads of holes (about 4 around each tree)...at first I thought bloody squirrels burying their nuts...but when I poke a stick down it it goes on forever...

I'm thinking this is just not squirrels as they don't dig that deep...this looks like there could be tunnels as they are very deep...I've not noticed any critters going down them, the holes are only about 1 1/2 inch wide...so what the hell is causing them...

I've tried google and its not giving me anything to go off..

So any ideas anyone...I'd just like to know what they are before I put a stick of dynamite down there..

I didn't even know we had any.. we've got a million and one squirrels but have never seen a chipmunk in the garden..strange

Probably caused by the North Carolina Burrowing Black Widow. You won't notice them because they are very sensitive to vibration; they lurk below the surface while you're watching. When you turn and walk away, they can feel that, so that's when they emerge and scamper up the tree overhead.

They're very good jumpers, btw.
