I travelled around Edinburgh last summer and I liked it... but I sure wouldn't want to make a decision to live there based only on a brief visit!

The USA is so big it's hard to know where to start.
The US is 40 times larger than the entire UK. Even with no college or university degree, you can get quite a good-paying job as a coal miner in either West Virginia or Kentucky!

Honestly, where you move should be more in line with what you do for a living and where the jobs are. From there you can usually always find a place that is good to raise kids within driving distance of the place of employment.

Personally, I would start a job search and from there narrow it down. If you like cold winter weather and lots of snow and ice then go to Montana, Wisconsin, Colorado, Ohio, Michigan. In other words the northern states of the US bordering along Canada. If you want someplace warmer and with more of a milder winter, then look at places such as No. and So. Carolina, Georgia, Arizona (Southern).

There is beautiful country throughout the US. Each state and area have prime spots offering outdoor activities, beautiful natural settings, varied landscapes. Where you settle depends on your likes and dislikes, needs, wants and desires but mainly where you can make an affordable living.
