What Brit Food can I Take to an International Lunch?
 

Have been invited to a Sunday lunch where there will be people from a range of countries and I have to take a typical Brit/English dish.

The most typical I can think of is curry! Trying to figure what I can take that will transport and reheat well. thinking either
quiche/tuna pasta bake/cheese and onion pasties/gingerbread oh and did I mention I dont eat meat?
Ideas? I dont have a lot of time to cook.

Mmmm Quiche, I had one at a friends house the other day, it had artichoke hearts in it.

A vegetable curry would be good and a talking point. I took one to a pot luck.

The ploughman's is a good idea if you can get nice cheese and pickles.

Shortbread - easy and you get lots of praise for it.

Anything with salad cream on.

I "second" the veggy curry idea. If you cook it in a crock pot it will keep warm while you travel then just plug the crock pot in when you get to the lunch. See if you can find some mango chutney too..yum!:)

Flapjacks! Made them for a leaving lunch and work and they went down a storm. Much better than the "granola bars" here.

I always take a dessert, bakewell tart (as long as no one is allergic to nuts), sticky toffee pudding...or even the classic victoria sponge..

but I have to admit, the curry idea sounds lovely...

Wet fish for starters , lame duck for main dish and anything bitter sweet for pudding . Sorry to bring up politicians at mealtime .

While it is freely available in the UK, what makes a curry typically british? It's Indian.

Now typical dishes [apart from what has been mentioned] would be
Bangers and Mash with some mushy peas thrown in,
Black pudding
cucumber sarnies

to name just a few of the top of my head:)

Well I have just been and bought a crock pot and am going for the veggie curry. Although it is originally from Indian/Pakistan i think it has now developed into being a traditional British dish, just like pasta came from China to Italy as far as I know.

Thanks for the ideas people, I would love to take some of the other stuff but not really easy to put on a buffet type setting. i may make a pudding if I can be bothered.

Trifle has always been the biggest hit of anything I've taken in the last 17 years- they love it. Other huge hits - pasties, corned beef pies, scotch eggs. Yorkshire puddings, if its that kind of do, massive hit.
