Default Weekend trip, Pheonix or Portland Oregan?

I have a long weekend in July and I am planning a trip to the USA from Calgary. I have a choice between Portland or Pheonix, both very different cities.

Can anybody offer suggestions on which one they think I should go for?

Many thanks.

My advice is do NOT come to Phoenix in July, unless you want to spend 24/7 in the pool.

It's been 110 here lately. You cannot do ANYthing outdoors except swim.

Of course if you're coming to visit a friend and hang out a little while at the pool and then stay indoors, maybe go out to dinner or something, that would be tolerable.

Note also the night time temperatures are not much cooler right now, 90-100F.

It might not be raining in Portland in July.
Maybe.

Look on the bright side. Our local ski resort is open over the 4th July weekend.

That's true. When planning a dinner out, you definitely don't want the outdoor patio seating!

Portland. I'll see you there as I'm doing an Oregon road trip next month Pheonix in July is madness - try January.

Portland x 100.

Summers in the Southwest are beautiful, but Phoenix is way, way too hot in July unless you're someone who loves heat AND has experienced 110+ before (my sister loves the heat, but even she could barely stomach Albuquerque in July and we barely broke 100).

These past few summers have been the suck.
Still, better than Phoenix.
(no offense to the Phoenicians, just too hard to drop in on those sort of temps, you have to acclimatize.)
