We got our first NOA!

When I opened the mail, I jumped in the air (with a big 'YES!!') and ran to the phone to tell my fiancé! :D :D :D We're so happy that our petition has started...we're a step closer to our wedding day..I wonder if there is anything we can get a head start on now (he's a Canadian citizen and I'm a USC), like obtain the police records etc...or should he wait to get his first packet from the Consulate?

Timeline so far:
Filed I-129f Sept.27
Received first NOA: Oct.9

I'm not sure about Canada, my fiance is British, but I think you should gather all the info you're going to need, the police report may take a while, so if you can get it now, I recommend you do so. Also, start gathering the birthcertificate, the affidavit of support, the pictures and anything else you're going to need. It wouldn't hurt, right?

Anyway, good luck to you both :)

Re: We got our first NOA!

I didn't have any problem getting my police record. I just went to the local
RCMP office (in Vancouver) and I had my paper within 5 minutes. Don't forget
to bring cash! And if I can recommend get all of the documents as soon as
you can, don't wait if you have the info what you will need. I got my visa
last week. Good luck.

Juliet, congratulations!

You're on your way :)

I'm not in Canada but London but I would say it's well worth getting started on
getting the packet 3 documents together.

Best of luck.

It only took me 15 minutes or so at the RCMP office in Kitchener, Ont.
They needed to see the documentation from the State Department's
National Visa Center before they would give me the certificate, so it
is possible to go too early.

if it is just a normal background check that is fine, but if you have to submit
finger
prints it takes longer. I don't understand why they would need to see the
documentation
from the State Dept. All I had to do was put into the box that it was for a K1 visa
