Smile Washington DC

We are going on vacation to DC next week, over the weekend. Is there anything special we should see? We have pencilled in the Vietnam Memorial, White House, several museums, FBI Building, and other stuff. Anything unusual which might be worth a look??

There was a good thread on this not long ago.

Don't remember who it was that was going, sorry.

You'll need a lot longer than a few days IMHO. Capitol Building, Union Station, Arlington Cemetery, Washington Monument, Georgetown, Memorials ie Geo. Washington/Lincoln. So much to see, so little time.

CG is right there was a good thread on this not so long ago, will try and look for you.
Georgetown is worth a visit, and I think the FBI building is currently closed. National Geographic is good, korean war memorial, gallery of art, just to name a few.
There is also the air show going on at Andrews AFB this week-end, if you are into that kind of thing

Yes, Arlington is in too, want to see the grave of Prez kennedy, and others. Union Station, not really interested, Washington & Lincoln Memorials already pencilled in.

We will be their about 4 days.

OH! Yes, thanks Mick. I will suggest that to Carol. We do have the Kennedy Space Center here which we visit occasionally, so not sure what Carol's reaction will be. Nice suggestion though.

Take a trip to the Great Falls National Park on either the Maryland or Virginia side. Also the new WWII memorial.

How far is that from DC? If we did I guess we could go in on the Virginia side. Our hotel is in Alexandria VA.

WWII memorial is disappointing, OK just to walk through on your way to something else but not great

I'm not quite sure when it occurs and you may be in town during the DC Cherry Blossom Festival. There's a big parade downtown and it draws a big crowd.

How long are you in DC? Just the weekend or longer?

It's worth bearing in mind that Union station is a pretty good place for lunch -it's right across from the capitol building and there are loads of cafes/restaurants/fast food outlets in there (in the station, not the capitol).
