Or because you can get more in per-view fees from YouTube than you would from selling a junky old washing machine on Craigslist.

Be aware that "installation" of a clothes dryer doesn't just mean "take out of packaging, plug in, and connect to the vent."
US clothes dryes are supplied without power cords, and you have to make sure that you have one with the correct sort of plug - three pin or four pin. If your home was built since 1993-4 you should need a four pin (that is when the electrical code changed), but it is possible that a three pin was retro-fitted as people often do that to make their "old" dryer work in their "new" home. .... And three pin sockets are still available today, so presumably it is still going on today, when the correct approach is to upgrade the power cord to a four pin plug - the difference is that three pin power cords don't have a dedicated earth wire, making do instead with a shared earth-neutral.
In fact, connecting the power cord to the dryer is quite straight forward, but you need to be confortable with some very basic electrical work - correctly matching the colors on wires to be connected to those in the back of the dryer, and installing the protective "strain relief" (collar) where the cord passes through the metal body of the dryer, which is a bit fiddly.

I didn't know about the change in the 220 plugs. The old 3 prong 220 in our kitchen was removed when we re-did the kitchen and was rerouted to a hard wired wall oven. The original 1938 kitchen allowed for either a gas or a 220v range. All three of our 220 circuits are hard wired.

Well, I'm waiting for Sears delivery right now. He's just phoned, due here in half an hour. I understand that the delivery cost includes installation. I have the cords and everything so fingers crossed all goes well - I desperately need it to.
