Walnut Creek, CA
Thank you all for your lovely welcome here. Our move to San Fran seems to be progressing well with lists, lists and more lists!!!
My OH is off for a look round areas next week and it looks like Walnut Creek will be the way forward as it is good for the BART and appears to be more affordable but still with good schools.
Is anyone familiar with Walnut Creek - any advice re. good elementary schools, residential areas to look at etc would be most welcome. (House we think we are after is a 3 bed, 2 bath rental for around $3000 pm).
Thanks, The Woodsies x

Walnut Creek is nice. Slightly pricier than the surrounding areas - Concord, Pleasant Hill etc. - probably for the reason that the schools in Walnut Creek are excellent. As a general rule, in the US, you can tell how good the schools are by the cost of housing
Probably the best elementary is Parkmead but in all honesty you can't go far wrong - they're all rated as excellent with API scores around the 900 mark.
Welcome to the area - let me know when you arrive and I'll be glad to show you around My eldest daughter will be starting kindergarten in August
