Default IT vs. Engineering

I have friend, he doesn't know whether Engineering like (Electronic) is more
demanding than IT (Programmer) in U.S? Any thoughts? I know current market is in a
slump but I'm sure one principle is better than the other.

gutted with too many IT people these days

best job is a nursing degree

get a PR easily too
