List the Effiel Tower at the Paris as well. Gondala ride at the Venetian and don't forget St. Mark's Square on the second floor for shopping and lunch. Lions are at the MGM. Tram ride as well starts at MGM goes down the strip.

A few mates from home where there last week and said it was pretty good - you can get pretty close to the dwarf rock muppet if that's your thing.
Can also attend the Price Is Right at the Rio and perhaps get seen on TV LOL

Imagine Leslie with a printed tee shirt ... rather imagine what it would say.

Next time try the VooDoo Restaurant at the top of the Rio. Daughter had her wedding there in September 2005 ... food was to die for. Night club is on the roof above the restaurant ... really great. Lounge chairs and sofas for sitting and viewing and whatever comes to mind. And if you're lucky will see a lightning storm in the mountains.

we stayed at bellagio with a couple of nights at wynn's on the way back through vegas and both were equally as good as one another.

one word of warning....mega groups of pickpockets patrol the strip so beware!

have a great time

Especially if you get to see the piece of art that Wynn put his elbow through.

Oh add the conservatory at the Bellagio to your list. Hell I'll never get off this thread if I don't shut down and rest my serious sinus infected body and let the meds work.

Nighty night

You don't have to stay there to go in and have a gander - its supposed to be quite stunning in a weird way.

Sounds naff, and I suppose it could be played out that way - We did Vegas last March, we actually got married in Vegas when we last went. We had both been married before and done the traditional thing, and to be honest both knew what a pain it was. We acted selfishly and 'blew' the money we saved on not having a traditional wedding on a top class photographer ($3k), a great room in the Bellagio, a full morning of pampering at the Bellagio's salon for Sue, a full days limo hire (20 seater) with champagne etc. We spent the rest on a horse trailer. We thought long and hard and both decided the wedding was for us, and well "us" wanted a horse trailer LOL. We let our guests entertain themselves Vegas style. I had friends fly over from England and it was incredibly stress-free doing it this way.

I was in Vegas for our wedding and the year before passing through on our road-trip to Canada. So my limited experience says:
Stay at the Bellagio and get a room over-looking the fountains - feel like a million dollars without spending it!
Off the beaten track - take a limo ride out to The Valley of Fire at sunset, take your camera!
Take the coaster ride at NY NY, and pay for the photo.
Coffee in the Stratosphere, but take your own!

Hoover damn is close by. Go at night if you go. It is more a historically significant visit than visually pleasing, at night its pretty but hardly worth the drive out there. We happened to drive over it on the road trip, and as luck would have it, it was in the evening.

We got married in the Little Church of the West on the strip, its the oldest building on the strip and your only peek at 'culture' [sic].

On my first visit we did Vegas budget style and stayed in a real dive! I shouted "we won't be late" as I left the room, to 'trick' the other guests in to thinking our room was not empty - I kid you not, LOL.

On my last visit I played a slot (I dont play them as a rule) one evening before the wedding when I had nerves and couldn't sleep. I won $1,800, I thought I had broke the damn thing when the 'alarm' went off. On my last visit I married Sue. Vegas has been incredibly lucky for me!

Recommendations? Things to stay away from?

I'm going with my Dad so no nudie shows. But other than that we're pretty much up for anything.

Has anybody done any tours to hit the high spots? Or is that even done in Vegas?

Oh I forgot. You must see a show by Cirque Du Soleil, please!
We saw 'O' but only as it was shown in the Bellagio and that is where we were staying.
I had seen Cirque Du Soleil on TV before but never 'live'. go, go, go - I am a strapping 6 foot bloke and I don't mind admitting I had a tear in my eye.
As it was our wedding we bought the good seats (I seem to remember them being $300?- and I remember thinking that was a rip off, and love conquers all!). Anyway, in the Bellagio at least, the theatre is fairly compact; It is not really worth paying $300 for premium seats when the $150 seats are a few feet away.

OK, more thoughts.
Go downtown to Fremont Street at night. They have all the old retired neon signs - awesome. The cowboy is there, from all those old movies.

Get in a cab and have your pic taken at the famous "Welcome to Vegas" sign. Its only 5 minutes out of the main area. They had just finished 'revamping' it with some turf and painted card type symbols. Go at night for maximum effect.

Puke at this one:

that's interesting as I was really miffed as we took it (paid for it) then realised if you just walk up the road you can see it for free I didn't think the tour was worth it but there you go, as I am about the only person to think so

I am glad someone mentioned Freemont Street - a definite must! I go to Vegas at least once a year and always make the trip downtown; the gambling has better odds down there too I hear.

Another recommendation is a visit to the Luxor .. its an amazing piece of architecture. Usually that is where we stay as the atmosphere is a bit more relaxed.

Saw Mystere a few years ago and can highly recommend that too.

Have fun ... am off to Vegas myself on the 15th.
