As for the trip drive to LA, if you go through SF, then you could go the long way too the highway, catching the Pacific Coast Highway from Point Lobos, and catch a view of the Sutro Baths with the waves coming in pretty heavy.

If drinking's their thing, then taking a tour of the Anchor Brewing Company would be worth it, especially with the delicious Christmas Ale being available to sample. Although you have to book well in advance. Also going to the Trappist in Oakland, which draws in a lot of beer connoisseurs from what I understand.

Wouldn't the Gilroy outlets also be closer?
Thank you. I have not been to Point Lobos.

Gilroy yes thats possible too..thanks for reminding.

Funny you should say that, it was on the news today (well I am sure it was on the news ever since but I got hold of it today!!) and I could relate the story.

Maybe ok if you have time on your side - I believe you have little or no control over schedule and routing.

Yeah, little weird. The flight can be anytime from 6 am to 10 pm. With the routing, it tells you in advance. For instance for a flight SF - Houston it will say "1 connection at the most"...so you know the upper limit.

I was thinking of this....For the dates I want to travel, check for current ticket prices on say kayak. That will give me an indication of what the prices are based on times of the day I want to travel. So for instance say the morning ticket is $150, afternoon $175 and evening $200. That tells me the morning is cheapest. So then I will bid for $125 and logic tells me there is no way the airlines will accept that bid for afternoon or evening....something like that. But I don't know if that logic stands!!

The biggest drawback you're likely to encounter with Priceline is that you really can't choose the exact itinerary. The money you might save over choosing an exact routing on one of the other travel sites, might end up being spent on trying to find a hotel in some snowbound layover city.
Cheapest is not always best value.

Yeah I hear you. That's the main reason I have never used PL for airfares. I think car rental and hotels are good enuf.

I agree. The US Airways itinerary mentioned earlier (with the all-in price of $360 all-in as I recall?) sounds great for what it is, and I'd be hopping right on it. I'd save PL for a situation in which the only regularly-available prices were truly outrageous.

Carnival have the nickname as the party cruise.

Other cruise lines are Royal Caribbean...they have the largest ships in the world sailing out of Florida. I also like Princess...NCL isn't bad either. The weather should be great as the hurricane season will be over...but no-one can guarantee it 100%.
