Default visa waiver entry to USA, operation

Hi all.... My US fiancee is unexpectedly having surgery in the next two weeks. Obviously I want to be with her... but we are 76 days into waiting for Nebraska to come up with approval or not.

In the past I have felt that the risk of visiting on a visa waiver is too great because of the complications that refusal of entry can cause.

But in this instance I am seriously considering it. Does anyone know if it is possible to get some sort of approval of entry in these circumstances? I am talking about significant surgery here, without going into details of course. I am very concerned for her and feel so useless at this distance... in the UK
