Visa for Visitor
Hi everyone,
Me and my husband were trying to conceive for 2 years, He is a resident in NY and I only have Visa, I visit him for 6 months then I go back
home for about 5 or 6 months. He gets his vacation only one month in the summer, that's the only time we meet backhome.
Last summer, backhome, I was diagnosted with Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). So the only way for us to conceive is through medical assistance
that last from 3 to 6 months (which is impossible to do backhome for a month). my question is: Since I am in NY now, I wanted to see a Gynecologist or fertility specialist, but am I eligible to get an insurance? Is there a good priced International Insurance that cover gynecologist or fertility specialist and medical analysis? I there a hope for Us?.
Thank you in advance.

Re: Visa for Visitor
Even if you could get insurance it wouldn't do you any good because it will not cover the kind of procedure that you need.

Re: Visa for Visitor
First if your husband has employer provided health insurance and works in a state that mandates that the employer's group plan provide infertility treatment or if the employer plan covers infertility treatments, see if it is possible for him to add you as a dependent on his employer provided insurance as a visitor. He'll have to ask his HR department if infertility treatments are covered and whether you can be covered as a visitor.
If that is not possible but the health pan will cover infertility treatments, then you may have to get a derivative visa of his visa (H4 for a H1-B visa, L2 for a L1 visa, J2 for a J1 visa, etc.) and then the employer will likely be required to add you to the employer provided health insurance.
If none of that is possible, I doubt that you could get infertility treatment coverage at an affordable price since the treatment would likely cost tens of thousands of dollars and insurance companies are there to make money so your premiums would likely cost more than the treatment.

Re: Visa for Visitor
You say you "only have a visa". I am guessing you mean a B-2 visitor's visa, but can you clarify, please?
How long have you been spending 6 months in / 6 months out of the USA?
I guess my point with all the questions is....why don't you have a type of visa where you can remain in the USA with your husband full-time?

Visa issues aside, you should do more research into PCOS because its absolutely possible to conceive without medical intervention. Even something as simple as taking ~1500mg-2000mg of metformin for a few months can make a dramatic difference. This is obviously very individual but generally its far easier than most doctors who don't specialize in it make out.

I'm also being treated for PCOS (we aren't sure I have it but I get the same treatment for my prediabetes anyway so meh). Metformin is inexpensive. For the cost of a single doctor's appointment, you can get a prescription for 90 days or more, and there are places in the US such as Wal-Mart and Kroger that will fill the prescription for as little as four dollars a month or ten dollars for a 90-day supply. A low-carb diet, losing weight, getting regular exercise, and addressing any other issues that might be affecting fertility also help. Duncan Roberts is correct. You may opt to try this way first before entering into a medical intervention that will be particularly costly and complicated just because you are in the USA.

Re: Visa for Visitor
Agree with what others have said, it's not impossible to conceive without fertility treatment, and metformin can assist - I pay $14 for a 3month supply and my OBGYN was happy to prescribe it. Following a low GI diet can also help a lot. There's a website called SoulCysters that has a lot of info and helpful forums on it.
In terms of insurance coverage, you'd firstly need to find out whether you are even covered by his plan. Then you would need to see whether the plan covers 'infertility investigations' and ask the insurance for further details of what this entails. For my plan it basically means blood tests, a HSG and ovary scanning, not any actual assistance in conception. Even if there is any kind of insurance coverage, I would expect that you will incur a significant cost. And of course, if you are successful in conceiving you would need to ensure you have coverage for pregnancy and birth.

One more thing, if you are looking to go to a doctor go to a reproductive endocrinologist who specializes in PCOS. They should be the best option, not an OBGYN it fertility specialist. I'm sure there are good ones of those who specialize in PCOS but a reproductive endo is usually a better option.

Re: Insurance for Visitor
Thank you all for your replies and support, my husband has a green card and will get his citizenship next year, I have visitors Visa for 10yrs.
To be honest with you, I am 34 and do not want to wait long to have kids .
Well I had two months treatement back home, the doctors prescribed Clomid 50mg x2 a day and an Ovitrelle shot for the first month
and the second month she prescribed Clomid again and 5 Puregon shots, I only took 4 shot and had an Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS).
After that I decided not to take hormones anymore I was told they cause breast and ovarian Cancer.
From that time, I changed my diet to low carbs, food low in GI and quit sugar (I am not overweight, I weight 119 LBS / height 168cm) , I take
Sage tea and prenatal vitamins, and a natural remedy mix of pure Honey,Ginseng, Royal Jelly ...etc for a 6 months now. And still did not get pregnant,
I was so desparate, I called the doctor again and she said I had to take clomid again for 3 months and it will give result so I had no choice and
started clomid again this month.
I went to the hospital yesterday and asked if there is a temporary insurance, she said it does not exist but gave me an HHC Options form and asked for my husband's
weekly salary for them to gave a discount, that is it....
I will wait to see if Clomid did not work this month, I will go for the HHC options.
"Michael & Natasha, I will ask my husband to check if I could be covered by his Insurance, even I am only visiting "
"MsElui, Iam so happy to hear your conceived 3 kids while suffering from Pcos, this give me another hope"
"Thank you Duncan Roberts for mentioning endocrinologist that is the one I need"
I thank everyone else who replied to my message .

Re: Visa for Visitor
Has your husband been checked out to see if he is part of the problem? You haven't said, you've mentioned only your own situation unless I've missed something.

Re: Visa for Visitor
My cousin managed to conceive with PCOS and whilst on the Pill.
I would explore any other possible issues before assuming it's the PCOS that causing the problem.

Re: Visa for Visitor
Why doesn't he just file an I-130 for you, the priority date for F2A is listed as 13 Sept, so you wouldn't wait long for a visa.
Then you can just be on his medical insurance.

Re: Visa for Visitor
I don't think that will help much because may get his citizenship before that so filing as a USC may be faster.
