Question Vet Bills In Phoenix, AZ

Hi

Does anybody have any idea of vet bills in the Phoenix, AZ area?

We have 3 small dogs (Papillons). One of them needs some dental work - a few extractions & cleaning.

Also, what would a typical annual visit for vaccination shots cost?

And for grooming/nail clipping?

Cheers

Harry

Not sure about the vet costs because we live in Texas.
Petsmart clipped our dog for us and did a great dog. We actually had her shaved (Corgi, really thick coat + Texas heat = disaster) and they charged us $45) did her nails too included in the price.
Our vet is pretty cheap, but can't remember how much he charged. Our previous one wanted to de scale my other dog's teeth and quoted us $150.
The vet we have now, took a look and said they didn;t need doing just yet, and when they did it would cost less than $100.

Red face Re: Vet Bills In Phoenix, AZ

Thanks Lisa67 - sounds like costs are similar to UK (not scary like human health care bills!!)

Cheers

If you're going to be living in the east valley (Mesa, Gilbert), I can recommend an excellent vet. I've been going to this small clinic for 20 years, and I love them. I have cats, not dogs, but can highly recommend the vet and the staff there.

We live near San Francisco and bought our two westies with us from England.

One of them had stones in her bladder causing a blockage, happened a few weeks after arriving, and involved an emergency trip to the vets. The total we paid out for the emergency treatment, and two surgeries and other tests etc, came to nearly 9k - luckily we took out pet insurance so managed to claim 80% back. So i would definitely recommend insurance, think the policy cost us $600 for both of them, its a $75 excess then 20%

The annual shots are cheaper if you go to a pet store.

We pay $58 for each of ours to be groomed, which is a bath, cut, nails, ears and anal glands. Pet smart did the first cut for $45 but i wasnt impressed.

Good luck with the move, make sure you have all your paperwork for the dogs in order to save any hold ups either end

Thumbs up Re: Vet Bills In Phoenix, AZ

Thanks everybody - we're feeling a little more relaxed about this now - that and the (apparent) fact that PHX is one of the cities within the PETS scheme, meaning that no quarantine is needed if we take the dogs back to the UK at some point... (restrictions apply, of course!)

Cheers

there is only no quarantine if your dogs have had the rabies vaccinations i think, as far as Im aware the whole of the USA is classed as being rabies active, although i could be wrong, but thats what we were advised when we moved.

we got our two pet passports before we left, so that if we suddenly had to return to the UK they could come back without quarantine.

They had to have the rabies shots, then there was a one month wait, then they had to have blood tests to confirm they had enough in their system, whole process took nearly 2 months, now we just need to make sure their passports are stamped each time they are given their rabies booster

Hope that makes sense
