Very very OT
 

I have an uncle who is very ill at home in Canada. We normally travel home
from FL via I75 or through S and N Carolina via I77.. I am hoping for some
feedback as to the gas situation from Fl to Detroit.Availability is the
question...
Any help will be appreciated.

I live in Kentucky, just about 45 minutes across the Tennessee border, and am about a mile from I-75. At exit 29 (Corbin), the prices are running between $2.99 and $3.19 for regular unleaded at the moment. Be forewarned that the BP at this exit was not taking any credit card payments for gas yesterday, though. The Citgo had only 3 of 6 pumps working. At exit 38 (London), the prices are ranging from $2.89 to $3.09 for reg unlead, and from the several gas stations I passed while out today, availability seems okay for the time being.

If you are a AAA member, I think you can get gas prices for your route from them.

Traffic on 75 is hell during Labor Day weekend, though I do wonder if there will be fewer travelling because of the prices. Have a safe trip and best wishes for your uncle's recovery.

Hi Bonnie,

My parents live in Cleveland, TN just north of Chattanooga, TN on I-75. As
of now, 8:30 p.m. gas was available and was $3.59 at the stations near the
Paul Huff Parkway exit (I think it's #27). If you drive about a half mile
to a mile to the right or left of the exit ramp it's $2.99. Of course I'm
sure you know prices and availability could change quickly.
I hope your journey home goes well and that your uncle's health improves.

Sheila and I drove from Kentucky to Toronto a few days ago and there was no shortage, although the prices ranged from $2.89 near Cincinnati to $3.19 close to Toledo, and back down to $2.89 again in Detroit. In Windsor, and all the way to Toronto, the prices ranged from $4.35 to $5.00 (converted from litres, but not taking exchange rates into account). :)

You're welcome. I noticed that several people answered you on
www.britishexpats.com , but their posts don't seem to be showing up anywhere
other than there. You might want to go to that site and read the responses
from there. (It's under Discussion Forum--then go to US marriage based
visas)

Thanks for the heads up Sophie. I went to Expats and read the other replys.
I access this through my Outlook Express and if it had not been for you I
wouldn't have looked there. :))
The price of gas at home is $1.62 a litre according to my mother, but no one
is out.
We are just hoping he will recover.

Thanks to all who replied. Someone alerted me to the fact that the posts here did not show up where I usually access the forum. My mother just told me that gas is $1.37 L in my old home town.

Which gallon up in Canada? It is a well known fact that US cars get 20% more miles to the "gallon" in Canada then they do in the US.

That is because if you figure an American gallon there are 4 litres...an Imperial Gallon is 5 litres.
