Coming from Wars of the Roses territory, I consider talk of an end to the rivalry to be premature in the extreme.

Of course if you compare it to Anglo-French rivalry following 1066, the US civil war, or whatever you want to call it, is hardly even finished.

What's that all about? I just looked 'civil war' up in the dictionary, the definition seems to fit. Is that 'War Between the States' thing implicitly suggesting the war was NOT a civil war?

Indeed it does fit. A war between rivals within a country rather than international belligerents.

From what they were saying to me, yes they don't consider it a Civil War. Some people felt (and still do) that the South is occupied territory, and it was a uprising in an attempt to throw off the oppressors, much like the Revolutionary War.

Y'know, y'all are being very rude taking this thread all over the place, ignoring the OP rather than addressing their concern and assuring the BAFamily that we're really a warm-hearted group and welcome them into the fold. Whatever happened to good old Southern hospitality?

"What happened to the OP?" is a better question. What sort of host invites you to a large party, admittedly a party with a lot of friends where you have a good time, but who then büggers off and leaves everyone to their own devices? It seems to be the height of rudeness to me!
