does anyone know how i should transfer my valid visa issued by the Indian consulate
in my old passport into my new passport?

They didn't do it at INS when I renewed my passport.

Should I just carry my old passport with me when I travel?

Yes, if your visa is labelled as "indefinite" just carry your old and new
passport with you.
