The local public health service (usually at the county government level) will often offer vaccinations at low to no cost for residents, once you get here. You can google and check that out to see if that is the case for your new residence.

Generally the price is not that much overall. I think the most expensive I ever paid was $120 for a rush series of boosters before flying to Africa one year, and these were no standard vaccinations for the US. I think the flu shot I got at a pharmacy was $10 last time. Maybe $20.

As for needle phobic, have you consider a topical skin cream like EMLA? Has been shown to help with kids who fear the needle.
