Vacations
 

So we are visiting family in England in June, where even if there is the slightest chance of sunshine I certainly won't be lying around a pool in my bikini drinking cocktails.

We would like to go somewhere for 1 week before the schools go back in August, but I'm a bit clueless. Although normally we like to get out and explore, we are already missing sitting in the LA sun around the pool drinking and would like 1 week of doing next to nothing.

When in England we had loads of places to choose from, France, Spain, Greece.... We've been to Hawaii, Florida, San Diego, Vegas, thought about Costa Rica or Caribbean but it's rainy season. Any ideas and whats everyone else doing this year? because I do like to change my mind;)

We're doing UK/Greece in August but here's a suggestion for you, how about Texas? Its warm enough and they must have some nice resorts someplace. The PNW? Its nice enough up here in August.

That's also in my mind.

So AmerLisa's suggestion of Texas, got me thinking instead of Colorado. This could be a good one for us, as there are plenty of activities horseback riding, rafting, hiking, we could do a couple of hours activities and the rest of the time lounging.

As much as I appreciate Lisa for giving Texas props, for the time frame you're considering ... definitely avoid Texas. :ohmy: The heat is just too oppressive. We all go inside. I'm spending a week next month at a resort on Galveston island but I planned it specifically to avoid June - Sept. The Texas coast is lovely and reasonable in price but it's just too hot in the summer.

Colorado is a great idea. I can't tell you how many people that live here head up there when the summer heat hits.

If I had my choice, for August, it would definitely be a lake cabin rental in Maine. It is beautiful, unspoiled and safe, with great people and awesome food. :cool:

What about one of the National Parks, although you do have to book accomodation in the parks quite a bit ahead of time. Some places outside of the parks can have accomodation at short notice.

Yosemite and then Lake Tahoe. Really nice in summer, sometimes a bit too hot for me.

I thought Texas might be a bit hot at that time of year, I really know nothing about Texas though, I'll look Gaveston Island up.

I love NP's but i've yet to come across a resort hotel where you can lounge around the pool most of the day, we need a pool big enough to occupy a 9 year old.

Tahoe isn't a bad idea, I'll check it out. We've been to Yosemite a few times, in fact we got married there before we had any idea we would end up moving to CA.

I thought about that as well.... But I'd probably vote on the PNW.... the weather is nice, not as far away and you can hop over to Canada if you'd like. :)

One thing about Galveston Island is that you can easily do NASA as a day trip. Excellent for the kiddo.

NASA would certainly appeal to both kidlet and hubby.

The exhibit looks fab, I lurve museums with famous art, I really am an art tourist, the more famous the painting the more I want to see it.
