We're actually both. What we're not is a sitting by the pool all day bunch.

Oregon is very pretty. I can recommend a tour of the southern Oregon wine country!

Any places where you've been and enjoyed yourself? We're struggling to come up with an idea that sounds appealing.

If anyone else is looking for ideas - we've had a blast in New Orleans, and enjoyed coastal Maine very much last year.

Thanks!

If I had 10 days, I'd drive to Utah, mountains, desert, canyons, excellent views, spectacular scenery, the drive from Grand Junction CO across southern UT is fantastic. then jib down I-15 through the Virgin river canyon in Arizona over to Vegas.

Now that is something I would love.

What about the Outer Banks in the Carolinas. Rent a cottage for your time there and visit the many interesting islands, play golf, sail, relax.

I second the PNW, beautiful country and mild weather. The Olympic Peninsula is great for outdoors stuff (Hurricane Ridge, Lake Crescent, the Hoh Rainforest, Olympic Nat'l Park) and has some very quaint small towns. Port Townsend being the best example. You can also take the ferry to Victoria (although I'm not sure of the passport situation) or a take whale watching trip. Then you're only a couple hours or less by ferry to Seattle. I love it up there! I'll see if I can find a couple pics from our last trip.

September is about the time of year when the weather in Chicago is bearable.

Then you could drive around to Wisconsin and take the ferry over to Michigan, then stay in Saugatuck (beautiful town on Lake Michigan).

Thanks! Technically I think the passport isn't a problem for going to Canada until 2008 - especially if you're not going by air to Canada. From what I read - worst case scenario I'd have to show proof that I'd submitted an application for a passport and that it had been received.

I'm still kicking myself for not getting that taken care of - but this would be an expensive time to go to Europe, etc. anyway - so it forces me to resist. There's a chance we may go to Russia next summer or that I may go to India next Spring, so I definitely need to do that.

I'd love to see your pics ABY!

Kauai

Na Pali and Waimea Canyon are some of the greatest hiking areas anywhere.

My inlaws spend their summers living on their boat along the northern coast of the Olympic Peninsula, ( the marina in the pics is their "home" berth) I know they went to Victoria last week but I'm not sure what they had to do.

Everything there is so beautiful, coming from the oak forests and flatland of the Midwest I was in awe. I hope you like the pics, I didn't resize 'em so they took 40min to upload, :curse: dial up!
